Wow – things are happening fast this fall. I know each of us are doing our best to keep up with the pace of these kids … but what an awesome blessing they are. Isn’t it great to see them active in so many things and loving life?! Praise God for each one of them.
We have been able to arrange for an awesome young man to join our Student Ministries Team. Sean Chiasson (pronounced like chasten) drove out from Colorado to join us at Bible Camp last weekend and is now assisting in providing extra activities for our kids to participate in. Things are beginning already tonight! Just a bit about Sean. Sean was raised in the Denver area and is a recent graduate of Walla Walla University – with a degree in Business. One of the greatest joys in his life is outdoor activities and he just completed a National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Course in Wyoming. This will add to his outdoor resume that already includes things like Swift Water Rescue, Wilderness First Responder, and Rock Climbing certifications. He has also been the director of Big Lake Youth Camp’s RAD camp program for the past two summers. He is a great guy, who loves God, relates well to kids, loves to get them interacting with each other and preferably to get them outside enjoying nature. It is awesome to have him on our team as the Student Life Coordinator.
We will be starting to organize frequent but inconsistent informal Friday evening worship events starting tonight. Please keep your eyes open for information about where and when they will take place. It is difficult to be totally consistent with them but you can generally assume that there is a group gathering somewhere. Sometimes they will be at the school. Other times they will be in student homes, but wherever the location, the purpose is simply to provide a place for kids to be together on Friday evening. We will make sure that there is a worship planned (generally student led), some music, and refreshments. Start time will generally be 7 PM and we will be winding up around 9. Tonight’s gathering will be here at the school. We will meet in the Rock Gym starting at 7 PM. Attendance is purely voluntary.
Feature Church Services:
Each year students and staff from PAA make visits to constituent Adventist Churches to provide the worship service. These visit usually include choirs, drama, and student speakers. They are a lot of fun for us and provide an awesome blessing to local churches. I learned quickly that local churches love to have these visits and it is tough to fit them all in. Here are the six dates that we have been able to schedule for this school year.
November 23 Lents Adventist Church 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM – Choir and Alegria to perform
January 18 Village Adventist Church 9:30 – 10:00 AM and Rockwood Adventist Church 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM – Choir and Alegria to perform.
February 8 Beaverton Adventist Church – 11:00AM – 12:30 PM – Choir and Alegria to perform.
February 22 Sunnyside Adventist Church – 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM – Choir and Alegria to perform.
March 1 Tentatively scheduled with Pleasant Valley Adventist Church – 11:30 – 1:00 PM – Gospel Choir to perform.
April 12 Hood View Adventist Church – 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM – Choir and Alegria to perform.
Please note that the times I have listed are approximate and could shift slightly. Further, I ask that as you bring the students to these gatherings that you plan on entering in with the worship from start to finish. It does not leave a very good impression if our choir leaves when they are finished with their singing and the service is continuing. We should all plan to stay until the entire service has concluded. Thanks for your understanding on this. Attendance will be required for students who have a part in the program. For others it is voluntary.
I was very enthusiastic about having a Summit Church service once each month. As the calendar has been filling however, it has become apparent that we just can’t do everything. Particularly when we add in all of the Feature Church dates. So we have dropped three of them from the schedule – the Nov., Dec, and March dates have been dropped. That leaves us with the following:
October 26, Jan. 11, Feb. 1, April 19, and May 17.
Remember to come at 11:07 for refreshments and the service will start at 11:27. Thanks
A Quick Report:
Things have been going very well from the sponsors perspectives on everything that has taken place already. Senior Retreat, Junior Challenge, Summit, Bible Camp – a lot of things have taken place and the reports from each one have been positive. Thank you for making it possible for the students to be there. As I sat in the audience last week at Bible Camp I watched at least 100 of our students move to the front of the stage to demonstrate their desire to make a positive impact for Christ in the world. That is why we do what we do! It was a special moment. Thank you for your prayer support and for facilitating the process.
Again, if there is ever anything you would like to discuss with me, just let me know.
For His kids!
